Foundation Alli Causai (FAC) is a non-governmental organisation founded in 1983 with the aim of promoting the comprehensive development of Andean communities of the central region of Ecuador.
Fundacion Alli Causai takes its name from the Quechua language: it means good life, a completely new life, and a life in which nothing is missing. All our efforts aim to meet this standard. FAC is comprised of a team of professionals from different health-related and development fields and has legal status in the Ministry of Public Health of Ecuador.
The strategy is to give back to the people the control of their own health, motivating them to change their lives. To achieve permanent change it is important not only cure the disease, but to insist on education, improving the community’s production and the fight against poverty.
Where we work
The headquarters of FAC is located in the city of Ambato, Tungurahua Province, but the area of influence extends to the four provinces of the central Andes of Ecuador.
Tungurahua, Chimborazo, Bolivar and Cotopaxi are the main work areas, with a target rural population of approximately 63,000 people. Within these provinces, the work of FAC, is concentrated in areas with higher levels of poverty and less access to health services
In the field, FAC works with a dispersed rural population, especially the Kichwa and Mestizo ethnic groups of the subtropics. In the city, we work with the population within the suburban periphery of Ambato, which consists mostly of rural migrant families who face difficult living conditions and complex health problems.
